Bagore Ki Haveli

Bagore Ki Haveli is located just at Lake Pichola’s waterfront at Gangori Ghat. Mewar’s Prime Minister Amarchand Badwa built this haveli in the 18th century. The haveli or the palace consists of hundreds of rooms that display modern art and costumes. The Haveli work also includes mirror and glass in the palace interiors. The palace also possesses a Queen’s Chamber and the walls of this chamber are decorated with Mewar painting. Glasswork is evidently found in two peacocks that have been made by the use of small pieces of glass that was colored.

History of Bagore Ki Haveli

Shri Amarchand Badwa, Mewar’s prime Minter from 1751 to 1778 during reigns of Raj Singh II, Maharana Pratap Singh II, Hamir Singh and Ari Singh, constructed the Bagore Ki Haveli. After the demise of Amarchand Badwa, the haveli was took over by the Royal family of Mewar and was taken over by a family member of the Maharana namely Nath Singh.

In 1878, Sajjan Singh, Maharaj Shakti Singh’s father took up the extension work of the haveli and constructed the gateway that is triple-arched and the entire property belonged to the state of Mewar till 1947. After India’s independence in 1947, the haveli was taken over by the Government of India that is used the haveli for housing the employees of the Government. No measures or efforts were laid in maintaining the condition of the haveli because of which the haveli got damaged and its condition deteriorated because of neglection for a time span of forty years. The Government of India, in 1986, handed over the haveli to the West Zone Cultural Centre for the purpose of relinquishment.

Restoration of the Haveli


Bagore Ki HaveliThe haveli was renovated by the West Zone Cultural Centre and was successfully transformed into a great museum which initially aimed towards representing the culture of the West Zone States like Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat. But later on it was transformed into a beautiful museum that represented the aristocratic culture of Mewar because of its charming and typical architectural style. The members and the experts of the Royal family of Mewar were consulted while the restoration work of the haveli was in progress in order to grant the haveli the royal look of the past era. Traditional and local skills and materials were used for the renovation of the haveli. Murals in Araish of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were uncovered and several windows, perforated screens and doors were replaced and repaired during the restoration work of the Bagore Ki Haveli.

Bagore Ki Haveli consists of 138 rooms along with numerous balconies, corridors, terraces and courtyards. Fine and intricate mirror work are found embellished in the haveli interiors.   • Timings of Dharohar Dance Performance: 7 pm to 8 pm every day.
  • Tickets. Rs.60 for Indians.
  • There are extra charges for cameras but they are very minimal.
  • Duration of visit: 45 minutes to two hours.
